Burgo’s Avezzano recycled containerboard mil has been down for almost a month now. A fire damaged the paper machine and the hall’s roof.

Italy’s Burgo Group is planning to resume production at its Avezzano containerboard mill, which was hit by a fire on 26 February, in the first days of April. The company announced that production at the site was currently still down as the mill’s roof had to be replaced and work was still ongoing. In the meantime, a part of the employees works at Burgo’s Sora mill which is located close to Avezzano, according to a spokesperson of trade union Slc Cgil.

The fire broke out in the dryer section of the site’s paper machine and damaged not only parts of the machine but also the hall’s roof. The Avezzano paper mill produces recycled corrugated case material on one machine, which has a capacity of 200,000 tpy.
