Japan’s Daio to shut 150,000 tonne/yr PM at Mishima; convert it to packaging production

Japan’s Daio

Japan’s Daio Paper has given out more details about the capacity rationalisation at its coastal Mishima mill.

In mid-year, it committed to shifting production on a paper machine there to board by April 2020.

The firm has now announced that PM N7, a 150,000 tonne/yr coated fine paper unit, will be shut down next October, and restarted the following April as a paperboard and kraft paper line.

Daio expects to be able to take advantage of growing export demand for packaging grades from the Mishima mill, particularly from China.
