Kronospan launches production of impregnated paper from cellulose in Russia

Kronospan Kaluga, a Russian subsidiary of the Austrian Kronospan concern, one of the world’s largest producers of wood-based panels is investing in the production of impregnated paper from cellulose at the capacities of its factory in the Kaluga region, according to the company.

Previously, the volume of production of such paper in Russia has been insignificant, while most of the local needs were met by imports. Still, there is a possibility such a situation will change already shortly, while implementation of the project will be part of the import substitution program, which is implemented by the Russian government.

According to the company, the new production will be 100% environmentally friendly, while for this purpose a set of special equipment will be installed on the basis of the Kronospan Kaluga enterprise. The list of such equipment will consist of Venturi scrubbers, electrostatic precipitators, cyclones, and other devices for water and air purification.

In addition, during its production, the enterprise will use the technology of secondary wood recycling. The new production will be one of the largest of such kind in Central Russia and will have a capacity of 40,000 tonnes per year. The volume of investments will reach RUB 4,3 billion (US$54 million).
