Pixelle continues to grow. The company plans to take over two of Appvion’s businesses, which will strengthen its position as a leading player on the US specialty paper market.
US company Pixelle Specialty Solutions will acquire two business units of fellow American specialty paper producer Appvion Operations. Pixelle announced it had signed a definitive agreement to buy Appvion’s security paper and carbonless rolls business, divisions. The transaction is expected to be concluded in April.
The transaction includes the businesses but not Appvion’s production assets. Pixelle will produce the carbonless rolls at its mill in Chillicothe, Ohio. Security papers, which the company will newly add to its portfolio, will be manufactured by Pixelle or Pixelle partners.
The company has rapidly grown in the past years and has advanced to become a leading specialty paper producer in the USA with capacities of more than one million tpy. Pixelle was founded in 2018 for the takeover of the specialty paper business from Glatfelter. One year ago, Pixelle went on to buy the Androscoggin and Stevens Point specialty paper mills from Verso Corporation. The company now runs four mills with a total of 12 paper machines and a converting line in the USA.
Appvion specializes in producing coated substrate paper. The company describes itself as a leading producer of thermal, security and carbonless papers in the USA. Appvion also produces other specialty papers such as inkjet paper and greaseproof packaging paper. The company will sell its carbonless roll business but will continue to offer carbonless sheets. Appvion operates one pulp and paper mill in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, and one coating and converting plant in Appleton, Wisconsin.
